Land, Sea and Sky
I go to a place to experience it, not to record a copy of it.
The marshes in their gold straw colour in summer. The same marshes, rare and beautiful, when covered in light-reflecting snow. The particular stillness of a valley in early morning.
Bright silver on still water. The way it seeps through a breaking wave. The quiet drama of a marina at dusk that stays with you long after you've driven home.
What ends up on the canvas is never the location itself. It is the feeling of being there. The light that stayed with me.
Landscape painting, for me, is an act of memory. The canvas is never the place - it is what the place left behind.
Original oil paintings of the British countryside, landscape, the coast, the sea, painted from impression and feeling rather than observation alone.
