Towards The Summer
A moment of sudden movement - and a path leading forward into the light
The third painting from the same winter walk around Oulton Broad, west of Lowestoft - and the most alive of the three. Just past the train signal crossing, a herd of geese lifted suddenly from the ground and flew, filling the air with movement and noise before the marsh fell quiet again. This painting captures that moment - the geese in flight, the snow-covered bridleway stretching ahead, drawing the eye deep into the sunny winter scene.
Where its companion paintings are still and contemplative, Towards The Summer has energy and optimism - a painting about movement, light, and the feeling that even in the depths of winter, something is always heading towards warmth. The snow-covered path leads you in, and the geese lead you upward.
