Abundance in objects, abundance in light - a painting that glows from within

There is a particular quality to the light in this painting - warm, golden, generous. It falls across a gilded fruit bowl filled with oranges and grapes, catching the skin of each fruit, the gleam of the vessel, the deep bloom of the dark grapes tumbling to the side. Everything is illuminated from within, as if the objects themselves are the source of the warmth.

This is chiaroscuro at its most classical - a single light source, a deep dark background, and the drama of what is revealed against what is left in shadow. Painted in the tradition of Caravaggio and Rembrandt, and developed following an online study with David A. Leffel, one of the foremost living painters in the classical realist tradition.

Abundance was selected for the Birmingham Open - a prestigious open art competition exhibited in Victoria Square, Birmingham - a recognition of the painting's quality and ambition.
