This print began as a watercolour painting of one of the most beautiful views in the Welsh Marches - Ludlow Castle with Dinham Bridge visible below, seen from the hill on the opposite side. It is the kind of view that stops you: the castle rising above the river, the bridge connecting the two banks, the whole scene composed by landscape and history together. The original watercolour sold. But the view - and the particular quality of light and atmosphere that watercolour lends to stone and water - was too good to leave behind entirely.
