Towards the East
The road east - reimagined, and full of feeling
This painting began with a real road - the route east towards the coast. The busy asphalt was replaced with a countryside mud track, winding through open fields beneath a vast East Anglian sky. A big cloud moves overhead, the kind that shifts the light and charges the air with a sense of something about to happen.
That something was a move. This is a study painted in the tension before a new chapter began - the road east not yet taken, reimagined as something slower, quieter, and more honest than a motorway. It is a painting about anticipation, about the feeling of standing at the edge of a decision, and about the particular beauty of the East Anglian countryside that was waiting at the end of the journey.
