Full-petalled and quietly dramatic, The Cottage Rose is painted in the soft purple-mauve tones of an old garden variety - the kind you find tumbling over a stone wall, not wrapped in cellophane. Set against a muted sage green background, this is a rose with character.

Painted in oils on a handmade linen board, the texture of the support gives the petals a softness that canvas alone cannot.
