That One Evening
A childhood evening in central Poland - held forever in a circle
There are evenings from childhood that stay with you - not because anything particular happened, but because everything felt exactly right. This painting is one of those evenings. Growing up in the open, spacious landscape of rural, central Poland, where the horizon stretches wide and the sky feels enormous, there were summer evenings when the sun would set through the trees and the poppies would glow in the last of the light, and the whole world felt warm and full of possibility.
There is something in the Suffolk landscape that keeps bringing this memory back - the same vastness, the same wide horizon, the same enormous sky that makes you feel both very small and completely at home. It is one of the reasons Suffolk felt like the right place to be. The land here carries a similar quality of openness, of light that travels a long way before it reaches you.
That One Evening is painted in a round format - one of only two round paintings made to date - and the circle suits the subject perfectly. A memory has no edges. It is complete in itself, whole, contained, and endlessly revisitable. This is a painting full of positive mood and atmosphere, of the particular joy of a summer evening in a wide, open landscape, seen through the eyes of a child who didn't yet know how much she would carry it with her.

Collecting original art
Owning an original painting means owning something no one else in the world has. This piece was painted entirely by hand by Marta Stolarska - every poppy and tree observed, every shade of that golden evening light considered with the care of someone painting from the heart. It arrives ready to frame and treasure.
Poppies, a setting sun, and the wide open evenings of a Polish childhood - a memory painted in a circle, because some things are simply complete.
