Botanical Gardens Drawing Session
A painting full of life - and a painter hidden within it
This plein air painting was made on location at Birmingham Botanical Gardens, as part of a drawing session with the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. It is a painting about a place that holds many kinds of joy at once - the Peter Sowerby Bandstand, where people come to marry, to listen to live music, and to simply be - surrounded by a field of multicoloured tulips in full bloom, with trees and flowers framing the scene in every direction.
Look closely, and you will find a fellow artist within the composition - another painter, working on their own subject that day, quietly included in the scene. A painting within a painting. A moment of artistic community, captured in oil.
This is a work rich with layers - of colour, of life, of the particular atmosphere of a spring day in one of Birmingham's most beloved gardens.

Collecting original art
Owning an original plein air painting means owning a moment in time - the exact light, the exact air, the exact garden on the exact day it was painted. This piece was made entirely by hand by Marta Stolarska, on location, surrounded by fellow artists and the full bloom of spring.
Tulips, a bandstand, a hidden artist, and a spring day in Birmingham - all held together in oil.
